Review 179: Born Free
Born Free is a wonderful film and a delight for the whole family.
Based on the non-fiction book Born Free by Joy Adamson, When game warden George Adamson (Bill Travers) is forced to kill a menacing lion and lioness, he and his wife Joy (Virginia McKenna) adopt their three cubs. Two are eventually sent to zoos, but they keep the third - a female they name Elsa - to which they become particularly attached. When Elsa becomes a full-grown lioness, the Adamsons realise that she must be set free and taught to survive on her own.
The plot is one of the most touching, poignet and emotionally effecting plots ever written
It's a story about love, courage, nature and human nature.
Love: The love that Joy and George have and show to Elsa is felt very deeply throughout the course of the film

Director James Hill's direction is sensitive, the cinematography is stunning and captures the beauty and wildness of Kenya, Africa. The score by John Barry is wonderfully beautiful and instantly iconic, the scenery is breathtaking, the production design is terrific, the costumes are
The acting is Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers are mesmerising in their roles as Joy and George Adamson
The work George does throughout the course of the film is portrayed as being very dangerous.
They adopted Elsa and reared her as one would rear a loved and loving child.
