Avengers: Age of Ultron Dreams Explained

Avengers: Age of Ultron Dreams Explained

In one particular scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron, whilst Earths Mightiest Heroes have a skirmish with Ultron and the Twins in Africa, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Which subdues the Avengers using her mind manipulation powers, placing them in some seemingly random nightmares. I hope to break them down.

As well as derailing The Avengers, those nightmares are designed to gives us as an audience a deeper exploration of their psyche, their fears and their regrets.

Tony fears what could be: What might happen is he and the others don’t do enough to protect the Earth. Seeing all his fellow Avengers dead and in that particular nightmare, they even recreate the famous frame of all the Marvel heroes dead on Thanos’ citadel from Silver Surfer Vol. 3 No. 55 which is part of the Infinity Gauntlet storyline.

Thor fears the coming of the Asgardian apocalypse, Ragnarok and all of his friends and family in the afterlife. You have to pay particularly close attention to Thor's visions as they set up the events of Thor: Ragnarok & Avengers: Infinity War.

Cap. fears nothing but regrets the life he left behind in the 1940’s. The life he could have had after the war with Peggy.

Black Widow is haunted her training to become a cold-blooded assassin in the Red Room.

And as for Hulk & Hawkeye - well we never actually find out as Hawkeye incapacitates Scarlet Which with one of his handy Trick Arrows and Hulk is sent on a rampage through Johannesburg.

Additionally, Marvel President, Kevin Feigie has stated that the next Avengers film, Avengers: Infinity War would explore those nightmares further elaborating: "were those little visions? Is that kind of like your worst fears being projected at you? Is that a prediction of the future? Or is that the sense of an ending doom that haunts you and keeps you awake at night? I think that'll be something we have to explore in Infinity War to kind of figure out how literal or not those are."

What do those nightmares mean exactly? How will they impact on Avengers: Infinity War?
What influence will they have on the film? How true are those nightmares? What do they mean for the future of the Avengers and the MCU in general? What does Avengers: Infinity War have in store for us - besides an Epic showdown between The Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy & Thanos?
Only time will tell.
