Review 436: Call Me by Your Name
Call Me by Your Name is a beautifully made, visually stunning
Based on the novel Call Me by Your Name by Andre Aciman, It's the summer of 1983 and precocious 17-year old Elio Perlman (Timothee Chalamet) is spending the days with his family at their 17th-century villa in Lombardy, Italy. He soon meets Oliver (Armie Hammer), a handsome doctoral student who's working as an intern for Eilo's father. Amid the sun-drenched splendour of their surroundings, Elio and Oliver discover the heady beauty of awakening desire over the course of the summer that will alter their lives forever.
A film that's more about atmosphere than plot. At it's core, it's a film about first love.
Guadagnino has described the film as being about the "beauty of the newborn idea of desire, unbiased and uncynical" which he hopes reflects his motto of living with a sense of joie de vivre.
In a lot of ways Call Me by Your Name is very much like Woody Allen film. It's a film that reminds you of everything that's great and wonderful about summer. It has such a warm, nostalgic atmosphere.
Director Luca Guadagnino's direction is the soundtrack is wonderful, the cinematography is gorgeous and captures the beauty of Italy in the 80's, the scenery is breathtaking
Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer are in their roles
