Review 493: Vice

I don't know what else to say, Vice is absurdly brilliant! And one of the best political satires to come out in recent years.

Governor George W. Bush (Sam Rockwell) of Texas picks Dick Cheney (Christian Bale), the CEO of Halliburton Co, to be his Republican running mate in the 2000 presidential election. No stranger to politics, Cheney's impressive resume includes sitting as White House chief of staff, House Minority Whip and defence secretary. When Bush wins by a narrow margin, Cheney begins to use his newfound power to help reshape the country and the world.

The true story at the centre is just remarkable,

Writer/director Adam McKay's direction is so sure footed its absurd. his absurdist visual style lights up the screen the cinematography is brilliant, the production design (recreating the late 60's and early 70's as well as the early 00's) is excellent, the score by Nicholas Britell is splendid, the make up is astonishing (Christian Bale is practically unrecognisable in the role of Dick Cheney). The costumes are terrific,

It truly is one of those films that you have to see to believe!

The acting is tremendous across the board, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Sam Rockwell and Steve Carell are stellar in this film.

Christian Bale  He disappears into the part of Dick Cheney. He's practically unrecognisable.

Amy Adams is simply fabulous playing Lynne Cheney. She was simply the ambition behind Dick Cheney. She was a woman who very much pursued he own ambitions and practically achieved everything that she went after.

Steve Carell is terrific playing Donald Rumsfeld. Cheney learnt all the Power Plays and Inside Games from him and he felt that he was somebody that he could aspire to be and learn a lot from. Cheney and Rumsfeld are both cut from the same cloth in that they have a lot in common in that they are both highly intelligent, driven and ruthless people.

Tyler Perry has a very interesting and noteworthy part in this film playing Colin Powell. A brilliant, very smart man who was also a general who served his country very well and is being tasked to talk to the UN

Allison Pill and Lily Rabe have two very noteworthy parts in this film playing Dick's daughters Mary & Liz Cheney

In smaller but very entertaining bit parts, Alfred Molina, Naomi Watts, Eddie Marsden, Cailee Spaeny,

5/5.
