You may have seen many underdog stories, but you've never seen one quite like The Karate Kid.

Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) moves from New Jersey to California with his mum, Lucille (Randee Heller), but quickly finds himself the target of a group of bullies who study karate at the Cobra Kai dojo. Fortunately, Daniel befriends Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita), an eccentric but kind and humble repairman who lives his apartment and just happens to be a martial arts master himself. Miyagi takes Daniel under his wing, training him in a more compassionate form of karate and preparing him to compete
in a tournament against his bullies.

Ralph Macchio definitely impressed playing Daniel LaRusso. Macchio brought a likeable charm to him whilst simulaneously channeling the sadness and frustration of being made a target of bully as well as the determination to master the art of Karate.
