Review 588: Mank
Mank may not be David Fincher's best film, but it's a well acted, wonderfully old fashioned
In 1940, Herman J. Mankiewicz (Gary Oldman) is bead ridden following an accident reminices on the development process of the screenplay that would form the basis for the film Citizen Kane.
In terms of style and tone, Mank looks and feels very much like a film from the 30's/40's.
It's about the evil tenticals of socialism.
the score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross is beautiful
Gary Oldman plays Herman J. Mankiewicz with a gruffness almost akin to his masterful portrayal of Churchill in Darkest Hour.
