Review 613: Lilo and Stitch
In a lot of ways, Lilo and Stitch is one of Disney's most introspective, thoughtful and touching films and also one of its most beautiful to look at.
Lilo (Daveigh Chase) is a lonely young Hawaiian girl who adopts a small ugly 'dog', whom
she names Stitch (Chris Sanders). He would be the perfect pet if he wasn't a genetic
experiment that escaped from an alien planet and crash-landed on earth.
Through her faith and unwavering belief in "ohana", the Hawaiian concept
of family, Lilo helps Stitch to unlock his heart. This gives him the
one thing he wasn't designed for – the ability to love!
I think this one of Disney’s most beautiful animated films mainly due to its exotic Hawaiian setting and its wonderful use of water colours which bring out the richness and the vibrance of the location.
One of the films innovations is to provide us with social worker that isn’t a one note villain: Cobra Bubbles but otherwise is a reasonable guy who’s just doing his job and is sympathetic towards Nani's plight.
