Based on the novel The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton; In 1870s New York, gentleman lawyer Newland Archer whose engagement and courtship to innocent socialite Mary Welland (Winona Ryder) binds him to the codes and rituals of his upbringing. But when her cousin, Ellen Olenska (Michelle Pfeiffer) arrives in town on a wave of scandal after separating from her husband, she ignites passions in Newland he never knew existed.
the cinematography is beautiful and captures the grandeur and energy of 1870s New York, the score by Elmer Bernstein is wonderfully elegant, the costumes are magnificent,
With a runtime 139 minutes, The Age of Innocence moves at a very deliberate pace
