Review 709: Layer Cake
Based on the crime novel, Layer Cake by J. J. Connolly (who also serves as the films screenwriter); A london-based criminal (Daniel Craig), works as a cocaine trade and is planning to retire and begin a new life. But he gets asked for one last favor: to negotiate the sale of one million hits of Ecstasy. Unfortunately, the pills were stolen from a Serbian drug lord who'll cut off his head if he sells them. And with a London crime czar (Michael Gambon) promising to retire him permanently if he doesn't, XXXX as he's known may be rightfully concerned about his future.
With this movie, you get the sense that Matthew Vaughn is making his own Guy Ritchie film but there are also influences from Quentin Tarantino laced throughout
