Review 584: The Gentleman

The Gentleman is a hilariously exciting action comedy and Guy Ritchie's strongest effort in recent years.

Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) is an American expatriate who became rich by building a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he's looking to cash out of the business, it soon triggers an array of plots and schemes - including bribery and blackmail - from shady characters who want to steal his domain.

The plot is a smartly crafted peice of crime comedy. Throughout the fim, you can feel Guy Ritchie channeling his inner Quentin Tarantino

Hugh Grant (in a role that casts him against type) practically steals every scene he's in playing Fletcher, a "seedy and sleazy" tabloid reporter who wants  Grant brought a wonderfuly, infectious, greasy charisma to the part that

As for Michelle Dockery playing Micky's wife Rosalind, you get the sene that she's someone who from a young age knew what it was to have money and wealth and isn't afraid to flaunt that.
