The Duchess is a solidly crafted, lavish period drama carried by a committed performance by Keira Knightly.
Based on the biography Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire by Amanda Foreman; At the age of 17, Georgiana Spencer (Keira Knightly) is married to William Cavaendish (Ralph Fiennes)
Director Saul Dibb's direction is the cinematography is luminous and captures beauty and prestige of the the score by Rachel Portman is beautiful, the production design (creating late-18th century England) is marvellous and beautifully detailed, the costumes are lavish
Keira Knightly. playing her as someone of great vivacity and openness. Georgiana is trapped in a loveless marriage She starts off as wide-eyed and nieve and has no idea about the situation that they're getting into. As the walls close in around her, she developse some air of political understanding, playing the public off.
