Review 652: The Book Thief

  

Based on the novel The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, In February 1938, Liesel Meminger (Sophie Nelisse) is taken to Munich to live with new foster parents, Rosa Hubermann (Emily Watson) and Hans Hubermann (Geoffrey Rush) who teaches her to read. Liesel begins "borrowing" books and sharing them with Max Vanderburg (Ben Schnetzer), a Jewish refugee being sheltered by her foster parents in their home.

Director Brian Percival's direction is sensitive  the score by John Williams is beautiful, 

Sophie Nelisse is a true find playing Liesel Meminger
