Review 764: Superbad
Superbad is a rare coming-of-age, comedy with a heart and more things on its mind beyond sex and penis jokes. It's autobiographical, inspired by the actual experiences of Seth Rogan & Evan Goldberg.
Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) are best friends as well as inseparable, mainly because of how popular they are. Before they graduate High School, Seth & Evan want to party and loose their virginity because what teenager doesn't want to do that. With the help of their friend Fogell/McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) and his fake I.D., the three friends go on a chase for that elusive booze, dodging incompetent cops (Seth Rogan & Bill Hader) while attempting to reverse a lifelong streak in one hilarious night.
Jonah Hill & Michael Cera are just a superb double act.
it's surprisingly wholesome and earnest
Emma Stone (in her film debut)
Seth Rogen & Bill Hader also show up playing to comedy cops
