Review 524: School of Rock

Dewey Finn (Jack Black) is a struggling guitarist and all round slacker who is kicked out of his own band and finds himself in desperate need of work. Encouraged by his friend and flatmate Ned Schneebly (Mike White) to find a substantial job and make some money, Dewey pretends to be his friend and poses as a subsitute teacher at a prestigious, uptight prep school. Initially acting aloof towards the kids

He's energetic and stubborn about his passion for music but down-on-his-luck and something of a slacker who would rather continue mooching off of his friend Ned than earn a propper living.

Ned, on the other hand, is presented as a foil for Dewey. He's responsible but submissive towards his overbaringly, tyranical girlfriend Patty (Sarah Silverman)
