Review 1: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
Based on the fantasy novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J. K. Rowling, After his parents are killed by the dark wizard, Voldemort, Orphan Harry Potter becomes famous for defeating the greatest dark wizard of all time. To conceal him from the rest of the world, Albus Dumbledore places him in the possession horrible muggle (the wizard word for non magic people) Aunt, Uncle and Cousin "until he's ready"
Eleven years later a giant called Hagrid comes, tells Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) his origins and offers him a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry accepts. At Hogwarts,he makes friends with two other wizards, Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson),battles trolls, becomes a legend in the wizard sport, Quidditch, takes charms lessons from Maggie Smith, Potions lessons from Alan Rickman, starts a rivalry with Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) and tries to find out a secret within the castle known as the Philosopher's Stone.
The plot is masterful, it has to be one of the most well written adaptations ever and a benchmark for other film adaptations, The saga of Harry, which in its deeply buried origins owes something to Jane Austin and certainly to Roald Dahl, is a learning experience as well as an entertainment. Also its a story about an outcast, identity socialising and becoming a better person.
Director Chris Columbus' directing is precise, the cinematography in gorgeous, the production design is superb, the costumes are colourful, it has a great sense of humor, the score by John Williams is spectacular, the special effects are terrific, the make up is fabulous, the action/adventure set pieces are thrilling, the sound effects are catchy and the ending is hopeful
The acting is fabulous, Radcliffe, Grint and Watson who play their parts beautifully, Robbie Coltrane is very likeable as Hagrid, Maggie Smith is fabulous as Professor McGonagal, Alan Rickman is excellent as Professor Snape, Richard Harris is fantastic as Professor Dumbledore, Ian Hart is marvellous as Professor Quirrell, Matthew Lewis is very likeable as Neville Longbottom, Tom Felton is superb as bully Draco Malfoy and the rest of the cast is great.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is a classic, you will love this film, I highly recomend it, 5/5.
