Review 16: The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
Based on the comic book series by Herge, Tintin (Jamie Bell) is a journalist who solves mysteries with his dog Snowy. When Tintin buys a model ship, he finds a clue that could lead to the discovery of one of the greatest treasures of all time.
Along his adventure he crosses paths with the villainous Sakharan (Daniel Craig) who also wants to find the treasure and extract revenge on Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis) whom he has a common past with.
Together Tintin along with Haddock and two clumsy detectives Thomson and Thompson (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost) set out to beat Sakharan to the treasure and something far better than they ever could have imagined.
The plot is one of the best adaptations ever made, sticks to the series and is so much fun. It really does captures the engaging, well-researched, plots straddle a variety of genres: swashbuckling adventures with elements of fantasy, mysteries, political thrillers, and science fiction of the comic albums. It overall captures the overall tone and look of the comics. It could very well be the next generation Raiders of the Lost Ark.
the animation is really motion capture and is some of the greatest animation used in a movie, the score by John Williams is catchy, the action scenes are thrilling, the humor is just so funny, the production design is fabulous, the character design is incredible, all the characters look just like they do in the comics, the scenery is beautiful and the ending was brilliant.
The acting is another highlight as well, Jamie Bell and Andy Serkis play their roles effortlessly, Daniel Craig makes an intimidating villain and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are hilarious as Thomson and Thompson.
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is more than a solid adaptation, its an marvelous adaptation: The comics are a childhood favorite of mine and I hope they make a sequel.
It also and it shows Steven Spielberg has a knack for animation, 4.5/5.
