Review 127: The Skin I Live In
The Skin I Live In is an incredible film and Pedro Almodóvar's best film to date.
After his wife is burned in an accident, Dr. Robert Ledgard (Antonio Banderas) tries to find a way to make skin more resistant and lives with his servant Marrilla (Marisa Paredes) who's also his mum. One of the ways he does it is by experimenting on a boy who raped his daughter at a friends wedding as an act of revenge.
The plot is a work of art, it's so clever and thought provoking and is as Almodóvar' puts it "a horror story without screams or frights", the score was brilliant, the editing was impressive, the cinematography was beautiful, the production design is brilliant, the costumes are excellent, the make up is rich, the suspense is astonishing, Pedro Almodóvar directs this with so much style and darkness and the ending was superb.
The acting was well done especially by Banderas and Anaya, and Marisa Paredes is excellent as the servant Marrilla.
The Skin I Live In is an incredible film, Pedro Almodóvar's best film and really has Academy Award for Foreign Language Film written all over it.
Captivating and Masterful are the words for this film, 5/5.
